Solution #1: Hit the gym

As stated, I had no clue what I was doing. Luckily, I had a cousin with experience in the field who took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. Here is the key though…..I had to ask for help. I sought him out. By taking that leap, his impact on my life was awesome.

Solution #2: Hit the Road

I had a positive gym experience, but in time the commitment to each other (my cousin and myself) began to fade. We both got busy. I tried continuing on my own by failed when I no longer had him to fall back on. Enter another friend who wanted to start running. I’m IN. We would run late at night after the kids went to bed. We were those guys wearing reflector vests. Wasn’t ideal but it worked for us at that time in our life.

Solution #3: Hit the garage (Huh?)

What happened to running you ask? Yep, we both got busy. I tried to do it myself but that lasted all of one night. Running alone was not my thing. Enter the world of home workouts and P90X. My wife called my bluff when I said I was going to do it, and next thing I knew it was sitting on my doorstep. I was now the proud owner of my first Beachbody at home program. Luckily for me I had a buddy and another cousin who wanted to try it out with me. I set the alarm for 9:30pm every night to workout in the garage and told them that is where I’d be if they were interested. Almost every night with the exception of 2 to 3 weeks, I found myself working out side by side with a partner. It was huge as I’m not sure I’d had made it through without them.

Solution #4: Hit the books

At this point, I hit my 70 pound weight loss as results from the first 3 solutions. The problem was that I kept putting 15 pounds back on and taking it off. The yo-yo process started. I needed a way to be accountable to myself and others around me. Enter my ACE certified Personal trainer certification. Yep. I figured if I could talk the talk, I would HAVE to walk the walk. It took all of 6 months literally, but when it was said and done, I opened my mind to the world of personal training and my life would never be the same again.
